The main parking lot of the Guam International Raceway was transformed into a temporary race track this past Sunday for Round 8 of the 10-round GIRMAC Supermoto Race Series. Supermoto is a form of motorcycle and ATV racing that pits riders and their machines on a course that includes both on- and off-road elements. For Round 8 of the series, the weather conditions were bright and sunny making for a very sticky course.

The racing kicked off early in the afternoon with the first of two heats in the Open Motorcycle class. As the green flag flew signifying the start, Caleb Barretto on his Kawasaki Kxf 250 grabbed the lead by the time the racers rounded the first of several high-speed turns.
In Heat 1, Barretto dominated, going on to take a fairly easy win. Jay Jones, on a Suzuki, took second place and Curtis Fees finished third, also aboard a Suzuki.
In Heat 2, Fees got a perfect holeshot off the start and held onto the lead for several laps before being chased down by Barretto. Barretto, who had worked his way up from a poor start, went on to take the win, sweeping both heats to take the overall win in Round 8.
Taking second was Fees, who, combined with his third-place finish in Heat 1, edged Jones for the runner-up spot in the round. Jones, after stalling and restarting his machine, placed fourth in the heat.
Taking third place in Heat 2 was first-time supermoto competitor and former motocross champ Errol Angoco.
Barretto leads the series after eight rounds with 284 points, while Peter Alvarez sits in second with 232 points. Fees currently holds the third spot in the series with 158 points.
Minibikes
In the Minibike Motorcycle class, team Monster Energy Drink rider Gener Lumbre, aboard a Kawasaki Klx 140, split heat wins with Jay Leon Guerrero to take the overall win. Leon Guerrero, aboard a Kawasaki, took second overall. The two riders went back and forth, battling each other for the win in both heats. Third place went to Oliver Camacho, also aboard a Kawasaki.
Team Monster Energy Drink rider Dennis Quinones still sits in first in the series points with 280 points, with Lumbre in second with 270 points. Tomas Pangelinan holds on to third with 166 points.
