The P&O Irish Sea Supermoto Series 2009 will see the 16th year of the partnership between P&O Irish Sea and Killinchy & District MCC, for the annual Winter Supermoto Series.
Bishopscourt will be the venue for the opening round on Saturday 25th October, where Keith Farmer will be out to retain his Solo title. However he will face stiff competition in the form of ex P&O Irish Sea Supermoto Champion, Davy McKee, who will be seeking revenge for being pipped to the title last year. Along with a challenge from a number of Supermoto regulars, there will also be a stern test from ex car driver and short circuit racer John McAndrews, road racer Paul Gartland and British Supersport Championship rider BJ Toal.
In the Quads, it will be usual suspects, Cathal McCartan and Justin Reid who will be vying for the Modified title, whilst there will be a new class in 2009 for Standard Quads. This is sure to bring back the excitement of the old days of Supermoto at Nutt’s Corner, when the Quads were more often going sideways, than forwards. Designed for newcomers to Supermoto, this should be an action packed class with competitors required to have no modifications and run with Motocross wheels.
Round two will be a week later on Saturday 31st October, where the P&O Irish Sea Supermoto Series will be make its’ first appearance at Kirkistown race track, before returning to Bishopscourt, for round three, on Saturday 14th November. The finale will be held on Saturday 21st November, at Kirkistown when crowds of spectators are expected, to watch the Solo and Quad Champions take their 2009 crowns. In addition to the main Winter Series, Killinchy & District MCC will also play host to the final round of the British Championship, undoubtedly attracting many additional riders.
Competitors wishing to travel to the P&O Irish Sea Supermoto Winter Series will enjoy special competitor rates, on P&O Irish Sea’s Cairnryan - Larne service.
James Esler, Sales, Marketing & Operations Manager, at P&O Irish Sea adds: “Our partnership with Killinchy and District MCC over the last 16 years has seen the Winter Series becoming a firmly established fixture in the motor sport calendar. With the addition of the final round of the British Championship this year, more riders than ever will travel on the Cairnryan – Larne superferry service.
